Homecoming: Saturday, October 12th, 2013.
The 2012 verison of Homecoming will be tough to beat. It was the stuff of legends, and if you missed it…that opportunity is gone. You will never be able to say, “I was there!”. Don’t let that happen again!
AS A DELTA PI ALUMNI, YOU GET ALL OF HOMECOMING FOR FREE!!! (everyone else pays $25.00*)
Delta Pi Alumni Association rents the Moose Ballroom for the daytime hours. We get it EXCLUSIVELY from 10:00 a.m. until Noon. After that, other greek organizations start to share the room with us.The Delta Pi Itinerary goes as follows:
- In the morning hours we use the room for our annual meeting, awarding of Scholarships, awarding of the Century Cup and getting our drink on. More specifically:
10:00 a.m. – Annual Alumni Association meeting – discuss business, upcoming events, budgets and future vision.
11:00 a.m. – Award Scholarships: Two scholarships go to outstanding Active Brothers. Come wish them well!
11:30 a.m. – Award the Centruy Cup: The 100’s add to the dynasty
- In the afternoon hours we use the room for the bowling tournament, homebase of operations, fraternity fellowship, and getting our drink on (see general itinerary below).
- In the evening hours, we use the room for listening to live music, mixing with other fraternities and sororities, going out to the local bars and GETTING OUR DRINK ON! (see general itinerary below)
We will not even try to DUPLICATE, last year, but what we will do is try to BUILD on what was already a great event. The itinerary for 2013 is a follows:
*The Delta Pi subsidy of Homecoming basically pays HALF YOUR DUES for you. This effectively make dues only $25/year for Alumni that attend Homecoming. WHAT A DEAL!
“98 Reasons” came about via a goofy conversation in regard to keeping Alumni brothers engaged. It went something like this:
Δ – Ya know what we need to get brothers to be part of the Alumni Association?
Π – No, what?
Δ – We need banter, man. You know, like how brothers talk when they all get together somewhere.
Π – Ya mean, like ripping-on each other and being completely abusive?
Δ – Yeah! That’s what I mean! That’s what’s cool about being a brother; that kind of honest back and forth, that you don’t get anywhere else.
Π – That would be kind of cool.
Δ – “Kind of”? Are you f’ing kidding me? It would be super cool! So how do we do it?
Π – Well, we could do something like list 100 reasons why brotherhood is good.
Δ – 100 is corny man. How about 99?
Π – No, 99 is stupid too. It’s like a pricing strategy. Brothers will see right through that scheme.
Δ – Well then, how about 98? No one uses 98.
Π – Done!
And with that, the most successful awareness program in Delta Pi Alumni Association history was born! To be 100% honest, it’s the ONLY awareness program in Delta Pi history, but let’s not confuse the matter.
SUBMIT YOUR “REASON”
One of the perks of being a paid, active Delta Pi Alumni, is the opportunity to submit your “reason” why Alumni Brotherhood is grand. Want to express it in a cartoon? A drawing? An interpretive dance? We don’t care…just submit it as you see fit and we’ll do the rest! Submit entries to SuperiorFirePower@mac.com.
Below is the FINAL Tally for this year’s
2013 Century Cup Challenge.
Audited by our devoted Treasurer, Josh Sullivan.
Remember, the money you pay in dues goes to programs for the Active Brotherhood and back into events for Alumni (like Homecoming, ball games, and other events). If we have any remaining at the end of the year, it is put into the scholarships of Delta Pi (there are two now, and we are closing in on the $100K mark).
It’s fun! It’s worthwhile! It’s part of who you are – Delta Pi.
Congrats to the 100’s Generation for yet a second victory!
Two consecutive “WINS” is quite impressive, indeed. Brother Lowry carried this motley bunch of benevolent men.

Too many stories to relate here, but just a few bullets – shooting from the hip:
- Iceman and his “special juice”.
- Ernie becomes a “Jamison’s shot-bully” at the campfire.
- The “snack barge” idea.
- Rico’s celebrity photo scowl.
- Rogers triumphant surprise entrance into the campground.
- “DOMIN, YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND!” – Roger Lowery at 1:00 a.m. at at least 7 decibels.
- Iceman’s palace tent of luxury.
- “Damn you Decoteau! You gave me a democrat canoe! It’s always going to the left!” – Ernie Lemoncelli
- Domin’s Corn-hole domination.
- Legendary Heralds (Ice and Ernie) work together on an electrical project that would make Tesla blush.
- Damian’s dream of a Tamaqua high-speed rail line.
- Ed Minner – nominated for sainthood for taking on the role of Ernie’s handler.
- Jackass 6 – The Fitz Dixon Era opening credits were shot as Fitz rides my mountain bike out the front door of the building and then wrecks directly into the railing causing great personal injury (bruises).
- Paul Litwin sets a record, as the only lawyer in history to spend 4 days in two years around Delta Pi Alumni – without threatening a single lawsuit.

Some more very sad news….
After several days of attempting to reach Jack Stevenson regarding the death of Dan Bova, I just learned that he passed away on May 18, 2013 at the UPMC – Shadyside Hospital. I became alarmed when his home phone was disconnected, his cell immediately went to voice and his new email account bounced back. Knowing that he had some health issues, I did a couple of Google searches. I came across his obituary. I don’t have any details but will attempt to find out.
John H. Stevenson, 57, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013, in UPMC Shadyside hospital. He was born Aug. 18, 1955 in Latrobe, a son of Billie Stevenson and the late Robert H. Stevenson. He was a graduate of Greater Latrobe High School class of 1973 and Bloomsburg College with a bachelor’s degree in business management in 1977. He was employed as a Regional Distribution Manager for Hearst Corporation. John enjoyed golf, fishing and stock market analysis. He is survived by his mother, Arena (Billie) Eldridge Stevenson, of Unity Township; three brothers, Robert H. and his wife, Nora, of Frederick, Md., Jim and his wife, Mary, of Davidson, NC., and Rick, of Greensburg; and five nephews and nieces, Robert, Elizabeth, and John, of Frederick, Md., and Jennifer and Trevor, of Davidson, N.C. Online condolences and guestbook can be found at http://www.hartman-grazianofuneralhome.com.
Another great guy who loved the fraternity and the brotherhood. The memories are endless. RIP – Mel…..

Received some sad news regarding the passing of Brother Dan Bova – #170 on your brick. As a pledge brother of mine and roommate, there are countless great stories and memories that will always make me laugh. Rest in Peace, Brother.
May 11, 2013 Daniel Charles Bova, 58, of 228 Florida Ave., Shenandoah, passed away Saturday evening, May 11, 2013, at home. Born in Philadelphia, he was the only son of the late Daniel and Stella Bova. A graduate of Bloomsburg University, Daniel worked as a salesman in the food service industry. He was a former member of Heights Fire Company. Daniel is survived by his wife of 20 years, Dorothy Beard Bova, to whom he was ultimately devoted and selflessly cared for during their time together. He is also survived by a stepson, Robert Beard, Weston Place; two stepdaughters, Tammy Andrasi and her husband, Joseph, and Kristy Girard; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Yep, it’s that time again when our DP Merry Band will take on the Mighty Susquehanna River in a weekend of fun and frolic. It’s a good time and a WHOLE lot better than canoe trips of yore – real food that’s cooked for you, nice camping spots and a bunch of Brothers with plenty of beer. Hell, you don’t even have to shlep your gear onto the canoe because it rides comfortably in the back of the “supply van” to meet you at the next stop.
For all you Cardio Freaks…..Even “Old Man Ernie” was able to paddle ( really, just float) downriver to each shaded luxury camp spot…. food and beverages awaiting.
FYI…No yoga allowed – the wives stay home with the chimps.
